Local educators support community services

Mar. 1—HIGH POINT — Despite COVID restrictions, Chi Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society for women educators, has continued its charitable community works in High Point.

One endeavor provided support for the Family Justice Center, a community collaborative providing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse a safe place to get the help they need. Over $150 was collected for the purchase of 40-plus activity bags and extra items to entertain children whose parents are receiving counseling at the FJC.

At least $500 worth of goods and gift cards was collected to support the Carpenter House, a Family Service of the Piedmont's shelter, which provides temporary emergency shelter to individuals and families escaping violent homes.

Chi members also donated almost 400 books to High Point LEAP (Literacy Empowers All People), a nonprofit dropout intervention program dedicated to empowering children and families through literacy.
