Local colleges: LaBarbera's FG at buzzer lifts Holy Cross women's basketball at UNH, 50-49

Women's basketball

Holy Cross 50, New Hampshire 49: Avery LaBarbera hit a leaning jumper in the lane at the buzzer to lift the Crusaders past the Wildcats in a close game throughout at Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham, New Hampshire.

Amanda Torres hit two free throws with 7 seconds left to put UNH (3-5) ahead, 49-48, before HC took a timeout.

Holy Cross (5-4) has won four of its last five games.

LaBarbera finished with 12 points and six rebounds, Janelle Allen had 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Oluchi Ezemma 10 for the Crusaders, whose coach Maureen Magarity was facing the team she coached for 10 years before arriving at Holy Cross.

Albertus Magnus 81, Anna Maria 50: Marinique Reddin had 13 points and nine rebounds for the AmCats (2-6, 1-1 GNAC) in a loss in New Haven.

Tufts 73, WPI 47: Alex Scariati finished with 10 points for the Engineers (7-1in their first loss of the season, to the 15th-ranked Jumbos (6-1) in Medford.

Men's basketball

Fairfield 74, Holy Cross 59: Kyrell Luc scored 16 points and B.J. Montgomery 13 for the visiting Crusaders (2-8) in their fourth straight loss.

HC led at halftime, 33-28, with only three turnovers but shot only 8 of 21 after halftime with 10 turnovers. Holy Cross, which hasn't defeated a Division 1 opponent this season, was outrebounded, 36-23, allowing 13 offensive boards to the Stags (6-3).

Fitchburg State 78, Castleton 67: Quincy Taylor shot 8 of 11 from the field and finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds as the host Falcons snapped an eight-game losing streak,

Kerns Monvilus had 16 points and nine boards, and Javon Taylor netted 15 with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Albertus Magnus 102, Anna Maria 76: Ralph Grasso Jr. netted 19 points, and Kennedy Minix-Rogers had 10 points with nine assists for the visiting AmCats (4-4, 1-1 GNAC) in a loss to the Falcons (4-1, 2-0).
