Liverpool v Chelsea UEFA Super Cup match assigned female referee
Stephanie Frappart will referee the UEFA Super Cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea, becoming the first woman to take charge of a major men’s fixture.
The French official will oversee the European season’s curtain-raiser between the Champions League and Europa League winners on August 14 in Istanbul.
Frappart, who took change of the women’s World Cup final in July, will be joined by the same two female assistant referees from that match, Manuela Nicolosi, also of France, and Ireland’s Michelle O'Neal.
Turkey's Cuneyt Cakir will be the fourth official.
Frappart, 35, already made history in her home country, taking charge of SC Amiens v RC Strasbourg in Ligue 1, becoming the first female to referee in the league.
It was later announced she would be promoted to the pool of Ligue 1 referees on a permanent basis for the 2019/20 season.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin praised Frappart’s dedication and reaffirmed UEFA’s aim to continue it’s inclusivity in the game.
"As an organisation, we place the utmost importance on the development of women's football in all areas” He said.
“I hope the skill and devotion that Stéphanie has shown throughout her career to reach this level will provide inspiration to millions of girls and women around Europe and show them there should be no barriers in order to reach one's dream."
Frappart is not the first female to have refereed a men's UEFA competition match. Switzerland's Nicole Petignat had previously taken charge of three UEFA Cup qualifying round games between 2004 and 2009.
