OXFORD — Mississippi State women's basketball is once again shorthanded, but that's been a theme for the Bulldogs this season.

Forward Denae Carter won't be available for Mississippi State's game against Ole Miss on Sunday (2 p.m., SEC Network), leaving interim coach Doug Novak's team without the reigning SEC freshman of the week. With Raven Farley inactive, too, forward Rickea Jackson and center Charlotte Kohl are the only two frontcourt options.

That creates a tricky matchup against the Rebels (14-2, 2-1 SEC), with 6-foot-5 center Shakira Austin a major scoring threat. Austin averages 13.9 points and 8.6 rebounds, and forward Madison Scott averages 11.4 points and 5.9 boards.

Ole Miss had a 13-game winning streak snapped last week against No. 7 Tennessee, but it rebounded with a 30-point win against Alabama.

The return of Jackson helps for Mississippi State (11-4, 2-1). She's averaging a team-high 20.7 points. Guard Anastasia Hayes has also been a large contributor for the Bulldogs, with 31 points against Vanderbilt.
