Game recap: Florida A&M rallies from early deficit, finishes off Alabama A&M 38-25

Florida A&M football (1-2, 0-1 SWAC) returns to the field from a bye week when it plays against the visiting Alabama A&M (0-3) at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers and the Bulldogs are battling to get their first SWAC win of the 2022 season.

Florida A&M last played on Sept. 10 when the team defeated Albany State, 23-13 for its first victory of the season.

Alabama A&M is winless after faltering to Austin Peay, 28-3 in a Week 3 matchup last Saturday.

The Rattlers are winning the all-time head-to-head record over the Bulldogs, 14-2. When these teams met in 2021, Florida A&M outlasted Alabama A&M, 35-31 in a come-from-behind victory.

With the lead, FAMU subbed in its backups to put the game away.

For the second straight season, FAMU comes back to beat Alabama A&M, 38-25.

8:52 p.m. | FAMU extending lead headed into final quarter

FAMU is using the clock while trying to get completely in the driving seat.

Linebacker Nadarius Fagan picked off Alabama A&M quarterback Xavier Lankford to set the Rattlers up for a 6-yard rushing touchdown by Jaylen McCloud.

FAMU is leading 28-19 with 14:55 left in the fourth quarter.

8:22 p.m. | FAMU takes the lead

FAMU offense established a run game with Terrell Jennings to open up passing attack.

Moussa spreading the ball to tight end Jeremiah Pruitte and Manigo before Xavier Smith catches a 10-yard touchdown.

Moussa and Smith have connected for two touchdowns on the night.

FAMU leads 21-19 with 6:12 left in third quarter.

7:37 p.m. | FAMU scores, but trails at halftime

FAMU's defense held up until Alabama A&M called a designed run for quarterback Xavier Lankford which went for 64 yards.

Before halftime, FAMU runs hurry up offense and goes through the air. Moussa found receivers David Maningo and Jah'Marae Sheread to set up a 20-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Smith.

FAMU trails 19-14 at halftime; Alabama A&M to receive ball to begin second half.

FAMU is using its aerial attack. Quarterback Jeremy Moussa is mainly feeding receiver Xavier Smith on the long ball. They connected for 58 yards on Rattlers' third drive of game.

Backup quarterback Ja'Cory Jordan also subbed in for a play to run a wildcat formation play for FAMU.

6:23 p.m. | Slow start for FAMU

Alabama A&M puts a stop to FAMU attempting to establish run game with Terrell Jennings and forced to three and out on first drive. Rattlers go through the air, but can't complete any passes in second drive.

Alabama A&M is running option and play action offense which has been successful. The Bulldogs also are utilizing two quarterbacks in Xavier Lankford and Quincy Casey.

The Bulldogs strike first with a five play, 52 yard scoring drive; leads 7-0 with 9:14 left in the first quarter.

The Rattlers, of course, are looking to extend their home game winning streak to 12.

They currently have the third-longest home game winstreak in the nation behind Montana State (14) and North Dakota State (12).
