Live updates: Fresno State wins Mountain West title, beats Boise State 28-16

On Sept. 23, Boise State’s season was falling apart after a crushing 27-10 loss at UTEP. Ten weeks and seven wins later, the Broncos (9-3, 8-0 MW) are playing for a record fifth Mountain West title.

Standing in their way is Fresno State, who got an up-close look at the Broncos’ remarkable turnaround on Oct. 8, when they lost 40-20 in Albertsons Stadium. The Bulldogs (8-4, 7-1) have had a turnaround of their own since then, going 7-0 en route to a shot at their fourth Mountain West title.

Either the Broncos or the Bulldogs will put a trophy-sized exclamation point on their resurgence when they meet again on the Blue at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mountain West championship game. Beat writers Ron Counts (@Ron_BroncoBeat) and Rachel Roberts (@ByRachelRoberts) and newsroom assistant editor Jim Keyser will fill you in on all the action with live updates below.

Broncos missing two players

The Boise State football team will be without two players for Saturday’s Mountain West championship against Fresno State, including one starter.

Redshirt senior starting wide receiver Stefan Cobbs will miss his second straight game with an undisclosed injury. He was injured against Wyoming on Nov. 19. Cobbs has 29 receptions for 396 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Backup nickel Zion Washington, a redshirt freshman, will miss his third game in a row. Washington has appeared in nine games this season and contributed three total tackles.

Boise State’s inactive list is significantly shorter than it was last week, when 12 players were listed as out for the Broncos’ regular-season finale against Utah State.
