Here's how Bianca Andreescu advanced to the US Open final

Bianca Andreescu defeated Belinda Bencic 7-6 (3), 7-5 to become the first Canadian to ever advance to a US Open singles final.

Andreescu will face six-time US Open singles winner Serena Williams in the final.

2nd set

And Bianca has done it! Andreescu dispatches Bencic 7-6 (3), 7-5 to become the first Canadian to ever advance to the US Open singles final.

Four straight wins from Andreescu and now she has a chance to break Bencic to close out the match. 6-5 Andreescu.

Bencic double faults at 30-40, tying the set up at 5-5. Andreescu appears to be rounding back into form, while Bencic seems to be irked by the partisan crowd.

Andreescu puts together her best service game in an hour, but now Bencic has a chance to send the match to the third set. 5-4 Bencic

For the fourth consecutive game, there’s been a break. Highly unusual, and now Andreescu has a chance to stage a valiant comeback in the second set. 5-3 Bencic

Bencic breaks Andreescu again on an 18-shot rally and though she’s 2-of-12 on break points for the evening, the Swiss international holds a commanding 4-1 lead in the second set.

Bencic breezes through an easy service game but it’s important to note that Andreescu has ditched the tape on her left knee. 3-1 Bencic

Andreescu sends a shot well wide, and it’s 2-0 Bencic in the second set. Afterwards, Andreescu then gently smashes her racket.

Andreescu is broken on the first service game of the second set, as Bencic flew out of the gate with a vengeance.

1st set

Andreescu won 84 percent on first serve, and is relying on her power game to send Bencic sprawling around the court. However, Andreescu won just 35 percent of her second serves, and will have to avoid double faults throughout the second set.

Andreescu dominates the tiebreaker while Bencic appears to be showing signs of frustration, winning the first set, 7-6 (3).

At the hour mark, exactly, the first set is tied at 6-6 and we’re off to the tiebreak. This is the first tiebreak of Andreescu’s 2019 US Open.

Andreescu holds her left knee in some discomfort after going up 15-0, and submits a beautiful drop shot on the next point, and breezes through the game without further incident. 4-4

Bencic is pushing Andreescu to the limit with some blistering returns, but Andreescu holds serve, delivering a powerful winner down the line. It hasn’t been easy for Andreescu through the opening half hour, as she’s staved off five break points throughout the set. 3-3

Ms. Andreescu is ready for the final.

Bencic wins her service game easily, and almost breaks Andreescu twice, but the Canadian holds on, and the set is even at 2-2.

Andreescu responds with back with an ace, crushing forehand winner, crushing backhand winner, then lets a Bencic return go long. 1-1

Bencic is serving to open the match and wins the first game without dropping a point.

Teenage sensation Bianca Andreescu squares off against 13th seeded Belinda Bencic with history on the line, as she could become the first ever Canadian — man or woman — to reach a US Open final with a victory Thursday night.

In the previous round, the 19-year-old showed incredible resolve to defeat Belgium’s Elise Mertens in three sets and was in disbelief over the accomplishment.

Earlier, Serena Williams cruised past Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinal.
