Only one hour left, still no fish at the scales

There is only one hour left until the scales close for Day 2 at 9:15 p.m. And with only 15 boats fishing on Tuesday, there have been no fish brought to Harbour Island Marina so far.

While things may have been slow in comparison to the massive catches of Day 1, a slow Day 2 brings its own excitement and an eye towards the back half of the tournament. With so few boats choosing to fish today, expect much more action over the tournament's next three days, as competition heats up for the $8.6 million in prize money.

Two hours in, no fish brought to the scales

As expected when the small number of boats fishing on Day 2 was announced, Tuesday has been a much slower day at Harbour Island Marina. As of 6 p.m., no boats have come to the scales, leaving the leaderboards unchanged.

The scales are set to close at 9:15 tonight, so there is still plenty of time for any of the 15 boats who chose to fish today to bring something in, maybe even the tournament's first white marlin, blue marlin or swordfish. Slower fishing days have brought in top fish in previous years so with many days left in the tournament, there's room for many leaderboard changes.

Small number of boats go out for Day 2 of fishing

The second day of White Marlin Open is here, and it looks like Day 2 may end up being a bit slower than the loaded Day 1 slate.

Only 15 of the 408 boats in the tournament decided to fish today, after 292 went out on the water Monday. But just because there are a smaller number of boats competing today doesn't mean there still aren't fish to be caught, and you can check back here for updates from Harbour Island Marina when the scales open at 4 p.m.

Many of the anglers returning to the docks commented Monday about rough the seas.

CATCH OF THE DAY - MONDAY: White Marlin Open catch of the day: A truly gigantic tuna wows the crowd

What did I miss on Day 1?

Day 1 was a jampacked day full of excitement at the Harbour Island Marina scales, with 292 of the 408 boats deciding to fish Monday.

Tuna was the fish of the day Monday, with many of the competitors weighing in either yellowfin or bigeye tuna. There were six bigeye tuna caught, with the biggest one going to the current leader of the tuna division, Brian Stewart of the Reel Tight, who caught a 213-pound bigeye.

Other leaders include, Patrick Brown, who had the only qualifying wahoo yesterday with a 51.5-pound catch, and Vernon Merritt Jr. out of Chincoteague, who leads the dolphin category with a 29-pounder.
