Live blog: Week 14 college football Saturday with Yahoo Sports

It’s the last day of the college football regular season, and it’s been a great one.

Ohio State routed Michigan, Auburn beat Alabama in a crazy Iron Bowl and Oklahoma dominated its Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma State. All three of those games have important implications for the College Football Playoff.

Here’s a complete recap of the day’s action from top 25 teams.

No. 15 Auburn 48, No. 5 Alabama 45

Alabama’s hopes for the College Football Playoff clanked off the left upright.

On fourth-and-7 at the Auburn 37, Alabama QB Mac Jones scrambled for an 18-yard gain to get the Tide into the red zone. But the drive stalled, and Alabama’s Joseph Bulovas hit the left upright on a potential game-tying 30-yard field goal attempt with 2 minutes to play in the game.

Auburn (9-3, 5-3 SEC) couldn’t run out the clock, however, and had to punt. On fourth-and-4, however, Alabama had 12 men on the field — resulting in a five-yard penalty and a first down for Auburn. The Tigers just took a knee and ran out the clock.

Auburn’s Shaun Shivers scored an 11-yard TD on a jet sweep, and the Tigers made the subsequent two-point conversion to retake the lead for good at 48-45 with 8:08 remaining.

Jones — who tossed two pick-sixes in the game — threw his third TD pass to Jaylen Waddle (and fourth for the game) as the Tide (10-2, 6-2) took a 45-40 lead with 13:44 to play. Waddle also has a kickoff return for a score.

Anders Carlson kicked his fourth field goal of the game to put Auburn back in front after three quarters — after Jones and Waddle hooked up for their second TD that gave Alabama a 38-37 lead with 4:37 to play in the third.

Alabama benefited from three penalties and had first-and-goal at the Auburn 2 midway through the third quarter. On second-and-goal, Auburn’s Zakoby McClain intercepted Jones and returned it 100 yards for a score that gave Auburn a 37-31 lead.

Auburn forced a three-and-out on Alabama’s first series of the third quarter, and Carlson kicked a 54-yard field goal — but an offsides call against Alabama gave Auburn a first down at the Tide 31.

Auburn couldn’t do anything, though, and Carlson kicked a 43-yard field goal to make it 31-30 Alabama.

First half

Waddle caught a 58-yard TD pass from Jones with 33 seconds left in the first half to give Alabama a 31-24 lead, but Carlson kicked a field goal on the final play of the first half to cut the deficit to four points — amid some controversy.

The score was tied 10-10 with 7:04 to play in the first half. Then things got crazy.

Auburn grabbed a 17-10 lead when Smoke Monday intercepted a Jones pass and returned it 22 yards for a pick-six, but Waddle returned the ensuing kickoff for a score to tie it up again.

The teams scored 14 points in 14 seconds.

Then Auburn’s JaTarvious Whitlow fumbled on the next drive, and Jones responded with a beautiful 33-yard completion to Devonta Smith to set up a first-and-goal at the 4. On third-and-goal, Jones hit Henry Ruggs III with a TD pass and a 24-17 Tide lead.

Auburn tied it at 24-24 on a 14-yard TD pass from Bo Nix to Sal Cannella with 1:06 left in the half. A great 37-yard catch from Auburn WR Seth Williams was among the highlights on the drive.

No. 1 Ohio State 56, No. 13 Michigan 27

Jim Harbaugh was the first coach of the Wolverines (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten) to lose his first four meetings with the Buckeyes (12-0, 9-0).

You can make it five.

J.K. Dobbins ran for four TDs — and a career-high 211 yards on 31 carries — and Justin Fields threw four TD passes as Ohio State dominated in the Big House.

Michigan’s Hassan Haskins scored on a 2-yard TD run with 14:54 remaining, and Haskins also ran in the subsequent two-point conversion to cut Ohio State’s lead to 42-27 and give the Wolverines some life.

But on Michigan’s next series, Haskins was stuffed on fourth-and-1 from the Wolverines’ 29-yard line, giving Ohio State the ball with 12:17 remaining. And Fields’ 16-yard TD toss to Austin Mack sealed the deal.

Leading 28-16 at halftime, Ohio State scored on its first drive of the second half — a 6-yard TD pass from Fields to K.J. Hill. It was Hill’s first catch of the game.

But Fields was taken to the injury tent later in the third quarter with a knee issue. Chris Chugunov replaced him, but Fields returned to the game wearing a knee brace — and threw a 30-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson on his first play back.

The Buckeyes did most of their damage early behind Dobbins, who scored three first-half touchdowns. Dobbins’ third score came after Michigan had seemingly stopped an Ohio State drive but committed a penalty. Dobbins’ 5-yard TD run 3:15 before halftime opened up a 28-13 lead.

And Michigan was willing to do anything to try and slow Dobbins down.

It wasn’t nearly enough.

No. 7 Oklahoma 34, No. 21 Oklahoma State 16

It was close for a while, but the Sooners (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) took control of “Bedlam” with a second-half onslaught, keeping their playoff hopes alive. QB Jalen Hurts threw a TD pass, ran for a score and caught another one on a trick play that looked familiar. Kennedy Brooks also ran for a score to extend OU’s lead in the third quarter.

RB Chuba Hubbard found the end zone for the Cowboys (8-4, 5-4) on their opening drive but they failed to score another touchdown as the offense has stalled in scoring territory.

Next up for Oklahoma is Baylor in next week’s Big 12 championship game.

No. 2 LSU 50, Texas A&M 7

The Tigers (12-0, 8-0 SEC) absolutely pasted the Aggies (7-5, 4-4) to complete an undefeated regular season before playing Georgia in the SEC title game next week. Tigers QB Joe Burrow threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

No. 3 Clemson 38, South Carolina 3

Trevor Lawrence threw three first-half TD passes — two to Tee Higgins — and Travis Etienne added two second-half TD runs as the Tigers rolled over the Gamecocks.

South Carolina stuffed Etienne on fourth-and-goal from the 1 to thwart the Tigers’ first drive, which spanned 14 plays.

But Gamecocks QB Ryan Hilinski was intercepted deep in his own territory. This time, the Tigers scored on a 10-yard TD pass from Lawrence to Higgins. Lawrence and Higgins connected for another score later in the first quarter as the Tigers (12-0) stayed on track for a College Football Playoff berth.

South Carolina (4-8) got its only points in the second quarter with a 39-yard field goal from Parker White.

No. 4 Georgia 52, Georgia Tech 7

Jake Fromm threw four TD passes for the Bulldogs (11-1), who were a four-TD favorite against the Yellow Jackets (3-9) — and played like one.

Brian Herrien and Kenny McIntosh have TD runs, and Rodrigo Blankenship a field goal for Georgia, which also scored a special teams TD.

But it hasn’t been all good news for the Bulldogs as WR George Pickens will miss the first half of next week’s SEC title game after he was ejected for fighting.

Georgia Tech got on the board in the second quarter on a 6-yard TD pass from James Graham to Tyler Davis.

No. 6 Utah 45, Colorado 15

The Utes (11-1, 8-1 Pac-12) wrapped up their second-straight Pac-12 South title with a blowout win over the Buffaloes (5-7, 3-6) to advance to next week’s Pac-12 title game against No. 14 Oregon.

After the falling behind by a touchdown early, the Utes took over thanks to Tyler Huntley’s two TD passes and Zack Moss’ 88 rushing yards and a touchdown.

No. 12 Wisconsin 38, No. 8 Minnesota 17

The Badgers (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) will play No. 1 Ohio State in next week’s Big Ten title game after a victory against the Gophers (10-2, 7-2).

Jonathan Taylor has two TD runs and a TD reception as the Badgers pulled away in the second half to reclaim Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

No. 9 Baylor 61, Kansas 6

The Bears (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) rolled against the lowly Jayhawks (3-9, 1-8) ahead of their Big 12 title game tilt with No. 7 Oklahoma next week.

No. 10 Penn State 27, Rutgers 6

Journey Brown rushed for 103 yards and three TDs, and Will Levis — filling in for an injured Sean Clifford — had a TD pass as the Nittany Lions (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) finally pulled away from the lowly Scarlet Knights (2-10, 0-9).

No. 11 Florida 40, Florida State 17

The Gators (10-2, 7-2) finished the season unbeaten at home with a victory over the Seminoles (6-6, 4-5). Florida QB Kyle Trask threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns to lead the charge.

No. 14 Oregon 24, Oregon State 10

The Ducks (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12) will play in the Pac-12 title game next week, but first they won the Civil War and stopped the rival Beavers (5-7, 4-5) in their quest of become bowl eligible.

A 98-yard kickoff return from Mykael Wright gave Oregon the lead. Justin Herbert has added a TD pass for the Ducks.

No. 16 Notre Dame 45, Stanford 24

The Irish (10-2) secured their third-straight 10-win season with a victory over the Cardinal (4-8) as Ian Book threw four TD passes for Notre Dame, which rallied from a 17-7 deficit.

The Wildcats (8-4, 5-4 Big 12) took back the "Farmageddon" title after the Cyclones (7-5, 5-4) won the matchup last year to snap a 10-game losing streak against K State.
