Litter-cleanup in Coventry next weekend for Earth Day

Apr. 17—COVENTRY — The Conservation Commission is looking for volunteers to take part in "Rid Litter Weekend," a two-day event organized to encourage residents to help clean up the town.

Rid Litter Weekend is set for Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25, to coincide with annual Earth Day celebrations.

Earth Day is Thursday, April 22.

Residents can take part by simply cleaning up along their own properties and in their neighborhoods.

"The spring season is a perfect time to remove some of the trash and litter that has accumulated on our streets and properties over the long winter season," a notice from the Conservation Commission states. The notice also highlighted the opportunity for civic groups and neighborhood organizations to organize cleanup crews.

Free garbage bags will be provided by the Conservation Commission, which can be picked up at the Land Use Office at Town Hall, 1712 Main St.

The commission is asking residents to continue to follow guidelines set by the state to stop the spread of COVID-19.
