Listen Now! Heat, Panthers, Lightning, Marlins, golf and more with columnist Tom D'Angelo

The Miami Heat made the NBA Eastern Conference Finals for the seventh time in 12 years.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers met in the playoffs for the second consecutive year, as the Bolts seek their third straight Stanley Cup Trophy after eliminating the Panthers.

The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the best teams in the American League and the Miami Marlins head into June with hopes still alive for a potential playoff berth.

And that's just what is happening right now. We haven't even mentioned football.

With so much going on, we needed to get some insight from one of the state's longest tenured columnists, Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post.

Tom's been with the Post for 40 years, starting his journalism journey before the Heat, Marlins, Rays, Panthers or Lightning even existed.

Tim's previous three podcasts:

On the field: Spring football is here; high school recruiting guru breaks down Florida

East finals: Heat forward Jimmy Butler (22) tries to find space to get to the basket between Celtics defenders Al Horford (42) and Grant Williams (12) during the first half of Game 2.

He's the latest guest on "The *State* of Florida Sports Podcast," powered by the USA TODAY Network.

Tom recently returned from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was covering the PGA Championship.

He'll tell us what it was like watching Tiger Woods limp through the tournament before withdrawing on the third day.

We'll also get his thoughts on LIV golf, Phil Mickelson, the large sum of money turned down by Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and more.

We also look at some of his most recent columns, including one where he tells the story of a 98-year-old tennis player who’s a Ukrainian refuge.

And he digs into a column I recently wrote where I ranked the Miami Heat as the second best overall NBA franchise since 1990.

We'll see if he agrees with my assessment of the Top 5, and why I don't have the Heat's Eastern Conference Finals opponent — the Boston Celtics, anywhere near the top five spots.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.
