Lighting of the Tinsel Trail delights gathering at Shelton House

Dec. 7—The Appalachian Family Christmas at the historic Shelton House in Waynesville on Sunday was filled with Christmas music, plenty of decorated Christmas trees sure to inspire and a large crowd eager to join in the festivities.

The evening included the official lighting of the Tinsel Trail — a collection of live trees decorated by local businesses and community groups lining the path of the Shelton House. The public is invited to view the trees and vote for their favorites through the month of December for a People's Choice Award.

During the Sunday event, musical entertainment was provided by the Song Spinners and Voices in the Laurel.

A main attraction for the children was Santa, who was available to consult on Christmas wish lists and offer his sleigh as a backdrop for photo ops.

Attendees were offered a choice of hot chocolate or hot cider, along with a variety of cookies as they enjoyed the festivities.
