Light thankful for normalcy

May 14—NORWALK — Norwalk Mayor Dave Light is thankful life is starting to have a sense of normalcy.

The city will be holding multiple outdoor events throughout the summer, ones that had to be canceled last year due to COVID-19.

"Hopefully between the people who have been vaccinated and social distancing, we can get back to have some sense of normalcy. I think people are ready for that, it's been such a whole change in lifestyle," Light said.

"Not being able to socialize like we normally do, it's not a good thing. Plus all the losses of friends and relatives through this pandemic have been tremendous."

Every Monday this summer, the Norwalk Area Visitor's Bureau is hosting Munchie Mondays at Suhr Family Park in Norwalk. From 4:30-7:30 p.m., food trucks will be out at the park.

Later in the month, on May 29, the city will host a one-day Strawberry Festival.

"We have all kinds of neat things happening," he said. "Last year, it was just so terrifying, no one knew how the whole pandemic was going to work out."

This year, the city will have a Fourth of July parade again (on July 5). Light said he's thankful all of these events are able to return.

The other big excitement for the city, Light said, is the McGuan Park revitalization project.

"It's going to be just beautiful down there. The community has just been overwhelmingly supportive," he said. "We have a workforce here in this town, it's unbelievable when they all come together."

The full-size basketball court was recently poured at the park.

"It's just amazing to know that we have that much talent here in this town," he said. "I'm seeing this all come together."
