Life-sized statues honor women STEM trailblazers

STORY: To showcase the 120 replicas, the Smithsonian partnered with IF/THEN, an initiative of Dallas-based Lyda Hill Philanthropies, with the organizers' motto being 'IF she can see it...THEN she can be it.'

Nuclear engineer Dr. Ciara Sivels said she knows about challenging the 'science-type' stereotype.

"That's my goal, right, is to show that Black women are in these fields," she said.

The #IfThenSheCan – The Exhibit opens to the public on March 5 and runs until March 27.
