Carmel Clay library's $40M reno | Grand Park updates | Rider throws hat in ring for mayor

October is right around the corner and so is the grand opening of the main Carmel Clay Library.

Nearly three years after the library broke ground on renovations, staff members are planning for the reopening Oct. 1.

The $40 million renovations include a new home for the Digital Media Lab, an expanded teen section and more community spaces.

"There’s really no area that wasn’t enhanced or improved,” Library Director Bob Swanay said. “Everything got improved.”

Westfield names the 7 companies that bid on Grand Park and the men considering the options

The six-person committee the city of Westfield established to review proposals tied to the sale or management of Grand Park Sports Campus met for the first time earlier this month, taking the city into the next step of determining the future of the 400-acre property.

The city released the names of the committee members and the seven companies that submitted proposals to the city last month.

Councilman Kevin Rider announces run for Carmel mayor after Brainard says he won't run again

One week after Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard announced he would not seek reelection, a city council member announced his candidacy for mayor.

Kevin “Woody” Rider, an at-large council member, announced in a news release Sept. 20, 2022, he planned to run for the city’s top job. Rider acknowledged earlier this year that he had conversations considering a run for mayor.

What to know about the proposed public charter school in Carmel

A proposed public charter school in Carmel, the potential first K-8 charter school in Hamilton County, has been met with support and pushback from community members and stakeholders.

Valor Classical Academy charter school is seeking authorization to start a K-6 school in the fall of 2023 and possibly use a former Carmel Clay school building. At a public hearing last week, school choice advocates say they want more affordable choice options in Carmel, while those against said district resources could be siphoned away from schools if the charter is approved.
