Lewiston native Isaiah Harris advances to 800-meter run final at U.S. Track nationals

Jun. 25—With a kick on the final lap, Isaiah Harris crossed the finish line second in his 800-meter run semifinal race at the United States Track and Field Outdoor Championships on Friday night in Eugene, Oregon.

The runner-up finish advances the Lewiston native to Sunday's final.

Harris was in last place out of seven starters after the first of two laps, but he ran the fastest second lap in the race to finish in a time of 1 minute, 46.72 seconds. He ran the second 400 meters in 53.20, more than four-tenths of a second faster than race-winner Brannon Kidder, Harris' Brooks Beasts teammate who crossed the line in a time of 1:46.62.

Harris' semifinal time was faster than in his heat race Thursday, which he won in a time of 1:47.10.

Sunday's 800-meter final is scheduled for 4:04 p.m. Eastern Time and slated to be televised on NBC. Harris, who already has achieved the qualifying standard for the World Championships, could secure his spot at the Worlds meet in July — also in Eugene, Oregon — with a top-three finish in the final.
