Letters: Florida's SB 1298 is solution in search of a problem

I am against Florida SB 1298 sponsored by Senator Gruters, which attempts to tie state/local funding to playing of the National Anthem at sporting events.

There is no reason to have this as law in Florida or for that matter anywhere else. While there have been attempts to limit use of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the overwhelming response by fans, owners and the public has been to support its continued use at all sporting events.

That is the way it has been for my 75 years.

Let us just listen to them and move on. The bill is a proposal searching for a problem that doesn’t exist, another example of government overreach with shades of “1984.”

We don’t need every aspect of our lives legislated by the government.
