Letters to the Editor

My no vote on the Kansas Constitutional Amendment stems from my surgical nursing.

Dr. Roger Marshall did not see the effects of illegal abortion on women in the 1950’s before Roe v. Wade. Raging infections predicted to prevent future pregnancies even if wanted, women bleeding to death from a perforated uterus.

The Kansas Supreme Court did not change Kansas’ current law and open Kansas to unrestrained abortion. It does leave the decision to the pregnant individual and family and their medical caregivers instead of Kansas’ future legislatures.

If you truly want to “provide for the health and safety of mothers and babies," vote no on the amendment and allow safe, rare, legal abortion with restrictions in place.

Although I value both and am amazed at the miracle of life given with a baby’s first breath, I must vote no on the amendment.
