Letter to the editor: Slow down, practice kindness

Our United States, along with our world, are on the speed lane in technology. Possibly to losing our beneficial gifts of communication by eye contact. It's like a kindergartner skipping right up to high school. Or a teen driver learning in a '60 model being put in the 2023 model.

Many of our seasoned citizens are being passed by, pushing them into unsteady territory. We need them as never before. Their valuable assets, which are still solid, as they hold our key of knowledge on solid ground, and in unity. They with others support dignity with moral support in every stage in life.

Each minute is ours to use. Nothing like brewing coffee in the morning, as we start reading the Independent or Repository paper. Or returning our mail as our eyes catch sight of a sender's name, which makes us smile. A handwritten note in a card can bring a cold winter day into a warm feeling. Knowing someone took time out of their day to pick out a card. A thank you, special occasion or message can lift our spirits when we need it most. It is not like just a click from a cellphone or a computer. Handwriting is never replaceable, but precious keepsakes.

Time is precious, and when we can give anyone we know and care about such a small priceless gift that can last a lifetime.

Let's each make an effort in our kindness, added with a smile to everyone we meet. We are citizens of our beautiful United States of Our America. Together, we can prove we want and are united in peace and love.

God bless all citizens, our first responders, health care, police and our heroic military who protect us each and every day, near and far.
