While living in York and Kittery for 30 years, I have often wondered how effective health inspections are in these towns and York County in general. After reading "The Premonition" by Michael Lewis (author of "Moneyball"), my concern is heightened.

Read the first chapter, about Public Health Officers, and CDC. Draw your own conclusions.

The author’s focus is a PHO in California, very dedicated and strident, frustrated by the existing bureaucracy she faces in fighting epidemics and public health issues in her town, county and state.

This anecdotal experience makes you wonder what about our town, county and state? Are the officials just going through the motions?

This question deserves the attention of our town, city and county officials.
