Legion baseball roundup: Aiden Barfuss racks up 7 RBIs to put Winner/Colome one win from Region 7B title

Jul. 23—GREGORY — Winner/Colome scored four runs in three of the first four innings to take down Gregory County, 12-1, in the Region 7B Legion baseball tournament Friday.

Aiden Barfuss went 3-for-3 and drove in seven runs for the Royals, including a two-out grand slam to start the scoring in the first inning. Aaron Gilchrist also went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Kameron Meiners and Adam Bohnet also drove in runs.

Ethan Bartels did not allow an earned run on two hits over five innings for Winner/Colome (13-6), which advanced the championship game to face the winner of Gregory and Platte-Geddes at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Hunter Van Nuewenhuis drove in a run for Gregory (8-4), while Bryce Frank allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits and struck out five over four innings.

Platte-Geddes 6, Belle Fourche 2

GREGORY — Platte-Geddes pumped in four runs in the bottom of the sixth to slip past Belle Fourche in the Region 7B Legion baseball tournament Friday.

The Broncs tied the game with an RBI single by Gage Kracht in the top of the sixth, but the White Caps came back to take the lead on a passed ball, while Jackson Neuman also added an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.

Landon Schulte also added an RBI for Platte-Geddes (8-5), while Kelby VanDerWerff allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out eight over seven innings.

Kracht went 2-for-3 for Belle Fourche, while allowing one earned run on three hits and five walks, striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Winner/Colome 10, Platte-Geddes 4

GREGORY — Winner/Colome scored runs in bunches in a win over Platte-Geddes on Thursday in the Region 7B Legion baseball tournament.

The Royals scored at least two runs in four innings, including three in the top of the seventh to seal the win over the White Caps.

Aiden Barfuss went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Winner/Colome, while Kameron Meiners went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Ashton Klein went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Charley Pravecek knocked in two runs.

Evan Farner surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings to get the win on the mound.

Jackson Olsen went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Platte-Geddes (7-5), while Kelby VanDerWerff and Dawson Hoffman each drove in a run. Four pitchers allowed 10 earned runs on eight hits and 11 walks. Drayton Priebe and Caden Oberbroekling struck out four apiece.

Platte-Geddes also defeated Martin 13-1 behind three RBIs from Landon Schulte.

Gregory County 12, Belle Fourche 2

GREGORY — Gregory County poured on nine runs in the second inning to roll past Belle Fourche in Region 7B Legion baseball tournament.

Hunter Van Nuewenhuis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Gregory (8-3), while Owen Duffy added two RBIs. Trey Murray, Rhoss Oliver, Sawyer Tietgen and Ben Witt all knocked in a run. Murray, Bryce Frank and Gannon Thomas did not allow an earned run on two hits in five innings.

Sean Wanfeldt and Aiden Voyles had RBIs for Belle Fourche.

Parkston 12, Menno/Scotland 3

PARKSTON — Menno/Scotland scored three runs in the top first, but Parkston matched with five in the bottom of the frame to advance in the Region 4B Legion tournament on Thursday.

Josh Polreis paced Parkston with three RBIs and two hits, while Caleb Titze knocked in two runs and Carter Kalda and Logan VanPelt had an RBI each. Titze and Polreis also combined two strikeout six in six scoreless frames on the mound.

Tyrus Bietz had two RBIs and Jordan Gall notched another for Scotland/Menno. Gall, Jacob Schott and Ajay Herrboldt combined to allow five earned runs on six hits and five walks.

Parkston played Mount/Vernon/Corsica-Stickney in an elimination game Friday. Scotland/Menno finishes the season 1-16.
