LeBron James' Heat jersey from 2013 NBA Finals nets $3.68 million in auction

The Miami Heat jersey that NBA star LeBron James wore in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals sold for $3.68 million at a Sotheby’s auction on Friday.

It was the most money a James jersey has fetched in an auction by more than 500%, according to the auction house. James’ 2020 All-Star jersey sold for $630,000 in 2020.

It was the third-highest price for an NBA jersey sold by Sotheby’s, however, the amount was less than the $10.1 million paid in September for Michael Jordan’s game-worn Last Dance jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 Finals.

The Heat forced a Game 7 that year with a miraculous comeback in the fourth quarter of Game 6, eliminating a five-point deficit in the final 28 seconds, pushing the game to overtime on Ray Allen’s amazing corner 3-pointer with five seconds left in the fourth quarter and then forcing a Game 7 with a 103-100 victory. James had a 32-points, 11-assists, 10-rebounds triple-double.

In Game 7, James had 37 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Heat’s 95-88 victory. James was named Finals MVP for the second time in his career after winning the award in the previous season’s Finals victory against Oklahoma City.

The No. 6 mesh jersey made by Adidas is size XXL and, according to Sotheby’s, the jersey is "in excellent condition consistent with use."

The Los Angeles Lakers star is closing in on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. He is 157 points shy of tying the record headed into Saturday’s game at Boston and is expected to break the record in the next five, six games.
