LAS CRUCES - Police and SWAT units surrounded an apartment complex on the corner of Pecos Street and Foster Road Tuesday as they attempted to arrest a barricaded man.

A spokesperson from the City of Las Cruces said that police were attempting to arrest a man in regard to aggravated assault charges but did not provide any additional details about the alleged actions.

The spokesperson did confirm that the standoff is not related to a shooting that left a man dead on Monday, Jan. 24.

At about 4:40 p.m., Doña Ana County Detention Center records indicated that Marcos Rodriguez, 30, was booked into the jail. Rodriguez was booked on two counts of aggravated battery against a household member.

According to a City of Las Cruces spokesperson, LCPD was called to an alleged domestic disturbance at the apartment complex after Rodriguez allegedly threatened someone with a weapon.

The victim was able to get away from Rodriguez, the spokesperson said. When police arrived, Rodriguez barricaded himself inside the residence for several hours before he surrendered.

This remains a developing story, and will be updated as new information becomes available.
