Lansing man claims $100,000 Powerball prize

LANSING — One person in Lansing is $100,000 richer after claiming a winning Powerball lottery ticket.

The Michigan Lottery Commission announced Wednesday Johnnie Porter Jr had a ticket with four white balls, plus the Powerball — 09-21-56-57-66 and Powerball 11 — resulting in a $100,000 prize after a PowerPlay multiplier.

He told the commission he purchases tickets when Powerball jackpots are high, and realized he had won more than originally thought. This ticket he bought on Aug. 3, which had a jackpot of $206.9 million.

"I took my ticket to a store to check it and got a message to file a claim, so I drove to the nearest lottery office to see how much I’d won," Porter said in the release. "When they told me the ticket was a $100,000 winner, I was shocked!"

He purchased the ticket from Shell gas station on 3206 W. Saginaw St. in Lansing, the commission said. The commission did not disclose what winnings the gas station received.

An individual in Pennsylvania won the Aug. 3 jackpot. The Powerball jackpot is currently $66 million with a drawing Wednesday night. Tickets are sold for $2 in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Porter plans to purchase a vehicle and save the remainder of his winnings, he told the commission.
