The Lakeland Tigers 12U baseball team won its first tournament of the fall season on Nov. 14 at Buffalo Creek Little League Park.

the Tigers defeated the East Bay Chiefs 8-4 in the championship game at the 6-4-3 Super Regional NIT in Sarasota.

"Today was a lot of fun," head coach Jason Welling said. "Our pitchers threw strikes, defense was excellent and offensively we put 22 runs on the scoreboard with timely hitting throughout the lineup. Typically, good things happen to teams with that formula."

The Tigers were dominant on the hill on Sunday. Landon Diyoiro went the distance against the Naturals, allowing only one hit, zero earned runs, and notching four strikeouts. Cash Shelley allowed just two earned runs, while compiling five strikeouts and a complete game.

Shelley led the Tigers at the plate with a grand slam and a bases-clearing single off the fence in the championship game.

After drawing a bye in the quarterfinals, the Tigers thumped the Naturals 14-1 in the semifinals to earn a championship game berth.

The Tigers wrapped up their fall season Nov. 21 at the USSSA Plant City Turkey Shootout.
