Lake and Sumter sports: How Hurricane Ian is affecting high school football games

Most Week 6 high school football games in Lake and Sumter counties have been changed as Hurricane Storm Ian approaches Florida. Many games have already been moved or cancelled.

We will be updating you on the status of each game as we get more information.

FHSAA has granted high school teams permission to practice on Sunday, Oct. 2, as a precaution to possible cancelations; but games cannot be played on that day.

Week 6 schedule and updates

Thursday, Sept. 29

Mount Dora Christian Academy at Oviedo Master’s Academy: The Bulldogs have closed schools and suspended extracurricular activities throughout the week. They'll update their website with any changes.

Friday, Sept. 30

East Ridge at Fivay: Fivay, a Pasco County school, has canceled all athletic events including Friday's game.

Eustis at The Villages Charter: Friday's game has been cancelled; no makeup date announced yet.

First Academy of Leesburg vs. Cornerstone Charter: The game has been cancelled make up dates will be announced soon.

Lake Minneola vs. West Port: The game has officially been cancelled and moved to Oct. 10.

Leesburg at Tavares: Friday's game has been cancelled; makeup date to be announced.

Real Life Christian at St. Petersburg Shorecrest Prep, 5:30: Shorecrest Prep will make a decision no later than Thursday afternoon if there will be a game Friday night.

South Lake vs. Ocala Forest: Rescheduled for Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.

South Sumter at Crystal River: Rescheduled for Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Umatilla at Mount Dora: This game is cancelled. The reschedule date likely will be Monday or Tuesday at 6 pm.

Wildwood vs. Union County, 7:30: As of Tuesday, schools set to take the field Friday if conditions allow.
