Lafayette brunch restaurant opening second location in old Brick & Spoon

The French Press, the Downtown Lafayette restaurant known for its brunch, will open a second location at the former Brick & Spoon at 3822 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

The first location on Vermilion Street opened in 2009 and was the first restaurant to be recognized by the James Beard Foundation for its innovative cuisine and paying homage to its Louisiana roots, according to a release. The second location is expected to open in March.

“Margaret and I have been approached dozens of times about expanding The French Press with additional locations, but the timing never felt quite right,” said chef and owner Justin Girouard in a release. “The pandemic tested our resiliency, and we learned that The French Press has become an important part of the Lafayette culture. This is the time, and this is the place, to do what we imagined when we first opened more than 14 years ago: Share our dream with as many people as possible.”

The new restaurant will seat more than 100 and has a kitchen four times larger than the original restaurant. The second location will allow the restaurant to serve more diners and allow for faster seating.

The Ambassador location will offer the restaurant's familiar classics like the Cajun Eggs Benedict and the Sweet Baby Breesus, but it will also feature new menu items, an expanded cocktail menu and private event options.

The location will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This second location helps move us closer to the expanding population of South Lafayette and outlying areas. We’ll also be able to address what we’ve heard for years about our popular original French Press: People were tired of waiting so long to get a table," Girouard said.
