Lady Hatchets get road win

Dec. 9—POSEYVILLE — The Lady Hatchets improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference by defeating a very good North Posey team 59-53 on Thursday.

The Lady Hatchets were led in scoring by Shay Hawk with 18 points, Katie Reed and Aubrey Frank with 13 points each, Olivia Gilley with 10 points, Chloe Browning three points, and Izzie Howell with two points.

"We grew up tonight, there were many times that we could have folded the tent, and the kids did the complete opposite. They kept playing harder and we had players go make plays. This was a great win especially in a tight game situation and on the road. It starts with our senior leader, Chloe Browning, even though we got off to a very slow start, Chloe is always the spark plug we need to get the others moving. She is the glue for this team and brings the younger kids together, especially in tight situations. She came up with some huge rebounds and passes down the stretch. Shay really came alive for us in the third quarter, she played very well on both ends of the floor, and her scoring for us started on the defensive end. Aubrey (Frank) handled the ball for us so much better tonight and continues to get better at running our offense, and did a great job on their point guard after the first quarter," said coach Gretchen Miles.

"Katie Reed, is going to crash the boards every time, and you don't see that happen at any level girls or boys. When you work as hard as she does on the boards, the ball tends to bounce your way. She is finished very well and making quicker and better decisions with the ball. Olivia Gilley, keeps improving her efficiency around the basket. She was super physical and came up with some huge rebounds down the stretch. She and Katie work very well together. Hayleigh Cummins does what she does well, find the open player and take charges. The charge she took in the 4th quarter was a huge momentum shifter for us. Izzie and Ella came off the bench and gave us productive minutes. They both were very good on the defensive end of getting in the passing lanes and using their fresh legs to our advantage. This team grew up tonight."

The JV Hatchets dropped to North Posey 39-27. Kyra Schuckman led all scorers with 16 points, Maddy Johnson five, Keagan Byrer, Maliyah Thorne, and Madi Dalton with two points each.

Lady Hatchets are back in action on Saturday hosting Tell City. JV start is 1 p.m. playing two quarters. Varsity start time is 2 p.m.
