L-S softball falls to Montezuma in SICL opener

May 27—SULLY — Lynnville-Sully's softball team rallied in the seventh inning, but it was too little too late as the Hawks lost their season opener 8-3 to Montezuma on Monday during South Iowa Cedar League play.

The Bravettes plated three runs in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth to grab an early advantage. All three of the Hawks' runs came in the seventh.

Reagan McFarland led the Hawks with three hits, three steals and one run scored and Greenlee Smock added two hits, two RBIs and one stolen base.

Aliya James added one walk, one run and two steals, Alexy Conover had one hit and one RBI and Makayla Tice scored one run and stole one base. Abby Squires registered one hit.

Conover started in the circle and allowed six earned runs on eight hits in five innings. She took the loss after striking out three, walking seven and hitting two batters.

James pitched the final two innings for the Hawks (0-2 overall, 0-1 in the conference) and surrendered one hit and struck out.

Kallie Robison earned the win in the circle for Montezuma (1-1, 1-0) after allowing three earned runs on eight hits. She also had four strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.

Madison Van Zee led the Bravettes with three hits.
