L-S golf teams sweep English Valleys

Apr. 11—NORTH ENGLISH — Greenlee Smock's scorecard on Thursday showed the lowest nine-hole score of the season so far.

Smock carded a 38 at Knoll Ridge Country Club and that helped the Hawks sweep host English Valleys.

Smock was the medalist in the girls' competition as the Hawks shot 244 as a team. Maxwell Mintle shot a 42 for the Hawk boys and L-S downed the Bears 203-210.

The 42 from Mintle was good for runner-up medalist. The other three counting scores for L-S came from Luke Farrell (50), C.J. Nikkel (52) and Luke Kramer (59). Keegan DeWitt also shot a 60 and Carsten James carded a 65.

"I'm very proud of this team and what they accomplished," L-S golf coach Jeff Knouse said. "I continue to be very impressed by Max Mintle's game and how it's improving. We also saw Luke Farrell really step up tonight and put in a good score. All of the guys did some things really well and I am very happy with their performance."

English Valleys did not have enough girls for a team score. Brooke Maston shot a 65 to earn runner-up medalist. Dakota Bokhoven (69) and Callista Hackert (72) were the other two scorers.

"The girls team as a whole continues to improve and now that we're settling into the rhythm of the season I think we will see them improve even more," Knouse said.

Only three players in the entire state have shot a 38 this year during nine-hole competition. Smock is the only golfer in Class 1A to do it so far.

"Greenlee continues to wow everyone with the scores she is bringing in," Knouse said. "She knows she can shoot even lower, too, and we're excited to see it."
