Kylie Jenner urges fans to quarantine after surgeon general asks her for help: 'Millennials aren’t immune'
The government asked for Kylie Jenner’s help in getting across the message that people should stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic — and she complied.
The makeup mogul, 22, talked COVID-19 with her 166 million Instagram followers — hours after Jerome Adams, MD, the Surgeon General of the United States, appealed to the reality star and other social media influencers to help “folks understand that this is serious.”
With a cherries face filter on her cheeks, Jenner began by wishing her fans a “happy self-quarantine.” She said she’s on day nine of self-quarantine and reminded that the coronavirus “is a real thing.”
Jenner said she saw Adams’ interview, during an appearance on Thursday’s Good Morning America, and “even though I’m already doing my daily reminders” for fans talking about the outbreak, the surgeon general mentioning her “definitely encouraged me to come on [and] talk to you guys so you can see me and hear me.”

She continued, “Please stay inside you guys... Practice social distancing. Self-quarantine. If you live with your parents, you don’t want to go home and get [them] sick. You might have it and not even know and be infecting other people. It’s serious and the only way we’re going to slow this down is if we do this. There’s not a cure right now. Nobody is immune to this. Millennials aren’t immune to this.”
Subsequent videos had Jenner talking about how she self-quarantined when she was pregnant with Stormi, now 2. (She did it by choice so her pregnancy couldn’t be confirmed by the press.) She said she spent that time watching TV, practicing self-care (long baths, facial masks) and doing puzzles.
This quarantine, she’s been doing more puzzles (which she calls “underrated”), is watching Westworld and is spending more time with Stormi.
Jenner ended by saying, “Being at home is fun. We can have fun at home, guys... We can do this together.”
Adams said on GMA host that influencers can help the social media generations understand the importance of quarantine — as many younger people have been partying on spring break in Florida.
“I have a 15 and a 14-year-old, and the more I tell them not to do something, the more they want to do it,” Adams said. “What I really think we need to do…is get our influencers out. We need to get Kylie Jenner.”
Of course, Jenner is a billionaire and has the means to quarantine in luxury. But her underlying point — about staying home — is an important one.
Jenner’s big sister Kim Kardashian shared on social media that she hasn’t seen her sisters because the family is taking their self-isolation seriously.
So far, the famous family has avoided the family, but other Hollywood stars haven’t been as lucky. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Idris Elba and Daniel Dae Kim have all been diagnosed with COVID-19.
