Kyiv Crews Battle Fires After Deadly Strike on Apartment Building

At least one person died and several were injured when a rocket struck a nine-story residential tower in Kyiv on Sunday morning, June 26, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Footage from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) shows emergency crews battling fires at the top of the building, which took the brunt of the strike, recovering victims and trawling through debris.

More than 80 personnel responded, according to SES chief Sergey Kruk.

Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said the strike killed one person and injured six, four of whom were taken to a hospital. Among those four victims was a seven-year-old girl who was in “stable” condition and expected to survive, Klitschko said. The child’s mother was in a condition of “moderate severity,” he added.
