Kutztown High grad Pierre Reedy named a third-team men's soccer All-American for Penn State

May 14—Kutztown grad Pierre Reedy, a redshirt senior at Penn State, has been named a third-team All-American by United Soccer Coaches, it was announced Thursday.

Reedy, a midfielder and co-captain, had a career-high 14 points this season on a career-high five goals and four assists for the Nittany Lions (9-2-2). He finished 49th in the nation in points.

His first goal this season was his first since his freshman season in 2016. He started 18 games that year before missing all but one game over the next two seasons due to injury. He had four assists in 16 games in 2019.

Reedy also earned All-North Region and All-Big Ten first-team honors this season. He helped Penn State reach the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

Reading United signs five >> Reading United announced the signing of five players from Philadelphia-based schools Thursday: Villanova's Carson Williams, Lyam Mackinnon and Marcus Brenes, Jefferson University's Charlie Livesey, and La Salle's Ike Hollinger.

Williams, a goalie, has helped the Wildcats lead the nation in save percentage (.849) and has the school record for career shutouts with nine.

Mackinnonm, a forward, had two goals with two assists for Villanova this season.

Brenes, a midfielder, started all 10 games for the Wildcats this season.

Livesey, a forward, finished his college career with 31 goals and 47 assists in 75 games between Jefferson and Genesee Community College.

Hollinger, a forward for La Salle, has four goals and seven assists in 46 games over three seasons for the Explorers.

Reading United opens its season on the road Saturday against Lehigh Valley United.

MAC Commonwealth honors announced >> Boyertown grad Sarah Reinert, a junior shortstop at Alvernia, has been named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year and teammate Riley Shields, a grad student, has been named the conference's Pitcher of the Year, it was announced Thursday.

They were joined on the first-team by two senior teammates: catcher Alyssa Acker, a Boyertown grad, and designated player Nicole August.

Making the second team were Lebanon Valley pitcher Sarah Musselman, a senior and Exeter grad; Alvernia infielder Paige Paciolla, a freshman; and Alvernia outfielder Maggie Loomis, a freshman.

Alvernia pitcher Ally Decker and second baseman Kerstin Koenig, both juniors, were honorable mention selections.

Reinert hit a team-leading .490 with a conference-high 48 hits and 40 runs. He also had seven doubles, three triples, a home run, 16 RBIs and 40 stolen bases in 40 attempts.

Shields, a three-time first-team pick, went 12-1 with a 0.60 ERA, 90 strikeouts and 14 walks in 81.2 innings. She also played first base and designated player and hit .423 with 24 RBIs.

Acker hit .368 with 11 doubles, a triple, a team-leading three home runs, a team-high 25 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. She did not commit an error. August had a .433 on-base percentage.

Musselman went 7-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 79.1 innings. She hit .434 with 14 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

Paciolla, a first baseman, hit .361 with seven doubles, a triple and 22 RBIs. Loomis hit .338 with 21 runs.

Decker went 9-3 with a 2.58 ERA. Koenig hit .297 with 16 runs and 22 RBIs.

The Golden Wolves went 15-5 to win the regular season MAC Commonwealth title, 22-8 overall.

Two from KU honored >> Kutztown University's Jenna Lipowski and Bridget Bailey have been voted to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-Atlantic Regional team.

Lipowski, a senior first baseman, is hitting .425 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs. Bailey, a junior pitcher, is 10-1 with a 2.43 ERA.
