KSU's Morris named a HERO Sports Sophomore All-American

Dec. 8—Kennesaw State defensive back Deontre Morris was named to the HERO Sports Sophomore All-American Team on Thursday.

The award marked the second straight season an Owl earned HERO honors after quarterback Xavier Shepherd was named to the first team last season.

Morris, an All-ASUN Conference defensive selection, put together an impressive year in the backend of the Kennesaw State defense. The sophomore from Atlanta's Therrell High School played in 10 games, with nine starts at safety, and was tied for the team-high in interceptions with five.

Morris tallied 50 tackles, including 32 solo, which was good for second on the team. He also added six pass breakups, one fumble recovery and was a main contributor for the a defense that caused a turnover in 10 of its 11 games.

Morris was one of five ASUN players selected to the HERO Sports sophomore team, joining North Alabama's ShunDerrick Powell, Austin Peay's Drae McCray, Eastern Kentucky's Braedon Sloan and Central Arkansas' Tamuarion Wilson.
