KSU earns No. 8 spot in season's first poll

Aug. 8—Kennesaw State stands at No. 8 in the STATS Perform Preseason poll, which was announced Monday.

The mark gives KSU its 60th consecutive week in the top 25 poll, dating back to the 2017 season. The streak spans 1,743 days with the Owls entering the last 51 games as a ranked program.

North Dakota State earned 52 of 54 first-place votes and is the overwhelming No. 1 team in FCS. The Bison are followed by South Dakota State, Montana, Montana State and Missouri State to complete the top 5. Villanova and Sacramento State precede the Owls, who are then followed by Southern Illinois and Stephen A. Austin to complete the top 10.

Other programs of note include East Tennessee State at No. 11, Chattanooga (No. 12), UT Martin (18) and Mercer (23). Kennesaw State travels to play UT Martin on Nov. 5.

As the ASUN begin its inaugural season as a football conference, the Owls enter the season as the conference's only ranked team, however Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas both received votes.

Kennesaw State comes off an 11-2 record in 2021 that saw it win its third Big South Conference title and earn its fourth berth in the FCS playoffs. The Owls open the season at Samford on Sept. 1.
