Kormylo, Beebe give Cheney breakthrough
May 15—The Cheney Tech softball team has been on the offensive in its last two games.
The Beavers put up a season-high 14 runs in a loss to Prince Tech Thursday. But they were even better on Friday exploding for another season high. Their 24-12 CTC win over Grasso Tech in Manchester gave them their first win of the season.
Cheney Tech (1-10) took the lead for good with six runs in the first inning. The hosts would add seven in the second and fourth innings.
Dylan Kormylo had four of the Beavers' 14 hits. Olivia Beebe, the winning pitcher, homered and tripled. Grasso Tech is 0-9.
BOLTON 5, EAST GRANBY 1. In East Granby, the pitching of junior Breelin McDougal and the power of sophomore Caleigh Sheehan paced Bolton to a must-needed NCCC win.
Sheehan smacked a three-run homer in a four-run fifth inning and McDougal tossed a three-hitter for the Bulldogs (4-10).
The home run was the seventh of the year for Sheehan. McDougal struck out nine as Bolton recorded its second shutout of the season. Losing pitcher Emma Griffin fanned 11 for East Granby (6-7) and gave up four hits.
STAFFORD 4, EW/SMSA 0. In East Windsor, Emily Padegimas pitched a four-hitter in Stafford's NCCC win. She struck out five.
Leading 1-0, Padegimas had a two-run double and scored on a single by Sofia Frassinelli in the fourth inning as the Bulldogs (10-6) took charge. Abby Lee was 3-for-3 for the Panthers (6-10). She struck out six on the mound.
ROCKVILLE 5, SUFFIELD 4. In Suffield, Kathy Larson's RBI hit broke a fifth-inning tie and gave Rockville the NCCC win.
Mikayla Leskey and Alex Silver had two hits each for the Rams (11-4), who never trailed but found itself in a 4-all tie after four innings. Jordyn Covert was the winning pitcher. Rockville has won seven in a row.
Lauren Sheridan had three hits with two doubles and scored three runs for Suffield (2-13). Molly Sheridan added three hits and two RBIs. Rylie Baril and Tori Bizon chipped in hits apiece. Shortstop Lauren Sheridan and second baseman Barile were defensive standouts.
COVENTRY 17, WINDSOR LOCKS 2. In Coventry, Abby Boya had four of the Patriots' 18 hits as the home team rolled to a five-inning NCCC win.
Remmy Casida had three hits including a home run for Coventry (12-4). Lindsey Harrington had three hits and three RBIs while Lily Rand chipped in three hits and two RBIs. Brenna Darcey contributed a pair of hits. Boya was the winning pitcher.
ENFIELD 18, EAST CATHOLIC 0. In Manchester, Tiffany Lubanski fired a no-hitter in Enfield's CCC East interdivisional five-inning win. The junior walked one and struck out nine.
Enfield (13-2) scored in every inning including six in the second. Makenzie Cray had three hits and she and Kim Baumann each scored four runs with Baumann driving in three. Lubanski had four RBIs and Baumann, Olivia Stebbins, and Taylor Lathrop had two hits each.
SOUTH WINDSOR 9, RHAM 8. In South Windsor, Kena Gonzalez had two hits and drive in four runs for the Bobcats, who held on for a CCC East interdivisional win that clinched their 10th straight state tournament berth.
South Windsor (8-5) led 9-3 before RHAM (7-4) put up five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. But the Raptors could not push across the equalizer.
Taylor Nysirios had two hits for the Bobcats. Winning pitcher Bridget Doherty struck out 11. Linnea Carlson led RHAM with three hits as it was denied a chance to wrap up a postseason spot.
E.O. SMITH 11, MANCHESTER 0. In Manchester, Ashley Lewis scattered seven hits for E.O. Smith (7-6) in CCC East interdivisional action. She walked two and struck out eight.
Katie Lee and Madison March had two hits each for the Red Hawks (5-10). Angeleena Warren added a hit and a stolen base.
Manchester hosts Berlin on Monday.
