What to know about the teams in Division I of the Berks Girls Basketball League in 2022-23

Nov. 29—Gov. Mifflin

Coach: Mike Clark, 11th season, 181-83 (274-101 overall, including four seasons at Oley Valley).

Last season: 8-4 Berks I, 17-9; BCIAA champion, District 3 Class 6A qualifier.

PIAA classification: 6A.

Top players: All-Berks G Shakyla Mayo, all-division G Taylor Koenig.

Outlook: The defending Berks champion Mustangs will try to build off last year's success and contend for division and league titles.

Berks Catholic

Coach: Bob Birmingham, 12th season, 218-90 (617-296 overall, including 22 seasons at Holy Name).

Last season: 11-1 Berks I, 21-7; BCIAA semifinalist, District 3 Class 4A runner-up, PIAA Class 4A qualifier.

PIAA classification: 4A.

Top players: All-division G Caraline Herb, G Sydney Brown, G-F Sydney Corado, G Madison Langdon, G-F Molly McFadden.

Outlook: Despite losing a wealth of talent to graduation, the Saints again expect to compete for division, county and district titles and qualify for the state playoffs.

Wilson

Coach: Chris Gallo, third season, 26-16.

Last season: 10-2 Berks I, 17-7; BCIAA runner-up, District 3 Class 6A qualifier.

PIAA classification: 6A.

Top players: All-Berks C Isis Dojan, G Jasilyn Moncada, G Laila Jones.

Outlook: After losing five of its top seven players to graduation, the Bulldogs look to be competitive within Berks I.

Reading High

Coach: Rashida Suber, third season, 19-21.

Last season: 6-6 Berks I, 13-11, BCIAA semifinalist.

PIAA classification: 6A.

Top player: All-division G Ashanty Chapman.

Outlook: After advancing to the county semifinals, the Red Knights hope to build off last year's late-season success.

Muhlenberg

Coach: Westley Giddens, first season.

Last season: 3-8 Berks II, 5-17.

PIAA classification: Class 5A.

Top players: All-division F-G Ryanna Hightower, G Peyton Brill, G Liberty Stitzman, G Jaleen Quiles.

Outlook: After moving up from Berks II, the Muhls look to be more competitive within the league.
