What we know: FedEx Ground to bring 200 new jobs to Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport

Thursday, Forrest and Jones County officials announced the addition of a new FedEx Ground facility opening at Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport's I-59 Supply Chain Park.

'A monumental day': New FedEx Ground distribution center, new jobs coming to Hattiesburg-Laurel airport

Here's what we know:

  • FedEx Ground is expected to bring around 200 new full- and part-time jobs to the area. The total number of jobs available will be adjusted seasonally.

  • Hiring information is not yet available, but anyone interested in applying can sign up for email notifications at careers.fedex.com/ground to be notified when local jobs are listed.

  • The FedEx Ground facility will encompass 217,000 square feet. Concrete has already been poured on what will be the largest site at the business park.

  • Construction is expected to cost around $12 million.

  • The company expects to have the site open by late 2022. An exact date has not been set.

  • Forrest and Jones County officials said they hope bringing in the new FedEx Ground facility will encourage other businesses to come to the airport's business park. Other companies located at the I-59 Supply Chain Park include Ashley's Furniture, NoTrax, Flowers Bakery Distribution Center and Clearview Recovery Center.

“The strategic partnership between Jones County and Forrest County and the Airport Authority has led to the success of the I-59 Supply Chain Park," Jones County Board of Supervisors President Johnny Burnett said. "We are looking forward to the continued economic prosperity of the region through this partnership."
