Actor and star of Celebrity Big Brother, Kirstie Alley, has sadly died at the age of 71, according to a moving statement shared by her children. She passed away in Florida following a cancer diagnosis, at a specialist care centre.

"We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered," her children True and Lillie Parker wrote on Twitter. "She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead."

Kirstie's family added: "As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother [...] Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did."

They also took the time to thank the staff at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care of Kirstie.

Kirstie was best known for her role on the American sitcom Cheers, her turn as Ingrid Hoffel in Scream Queens and for playing Saavik in Star Trek. She came runner-up to Ryan Thomas in the 2018 series of Celebrity Big Brother. In her later years, Kirstie often made headlines for her controversial political views, being a known and outspoken Trump supporter, and having had run-ins with the LGBTQIA+ community and Scientology.

Since her death was announced, many celebrities have paid tribute to Kirstie, with former co-star John Travolta writing, "Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I have ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again."
