Kimball man charged with threatening employee with gun in parking lot

ST. CLOUD — A Kimball man faces a felony charge for allegedly threatening to rob a man with a gun when he tried to assist him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Stearns County court.

Kevin Lavar Jackson, 32, is charged with attempting simple robbery.

According to the complaint against him, police responded to a call at a fast food restaurant Friday on Second Street South and talked with a man who was an employee at the restaurant.

The man told police he left the restaurant to go to Walmart and saw a handicap-permitted car in the parking lot and offered his assistance.

The man said the driver of the car, later identified as Jackson, demanded the man's money and the man said he ran after seeing Jackson pull the black metal barrel of a gun out of his waistband.

Security surveillance video of the parking lot shows the man walking toward Walmart and Jackson getting out of the car with his back toward the man. Jackson made a motion with his hands consistent with chambering a bullet into a semi-automatic handgun before turning toward the man, the complaint said.

Jackson was booked in Stearns County jail and he had a court date scheduled for Tuesday.
