Kim Saira Says She Gets Death Threats After Creating Petition Over James Corden’s ‘Spill Your Guts’

The woman who set up a petition calling out James Corden’s “Spill Your Guts” segment revealed she received death threats and racist messages.
What happened: Instagram influencer Kim Saira, who is of Filipino and Chinese descent, told NextShark that she regularly wakes up to hateful messages, including ones encouraging suicide, since starting the petition three weeks ago.
She shared now-deleted screenshots of the messages which show cyberbullies calling the influencer a “cry baby” and telling her to “consider suicide,” reported the New York Post. Another message also read, “Asian b*tch to go ching chong ur way into eating some cats and dogs.”
"I don’t think I deserve hate for trying to create change about something that 46,000+ other people also agree with," Saira said. "Obviously, the topic is impactful if thousands of other people also feel the same way as I do about his segment."
Saira, who has clinical depression and anxiety, said she's needed to stop reading comments "for the sake of [her] mental wellbeing."
At the same time, she noted, "That's how people on the internet work — they don’t think that their comments or messages actually hurt a person."
To those online sending hate, Saira wonders if they truly know the possible consequences of their actions. "What if your comments or messages actually caused me to harm myself in real life?" she asks them. "Do you ever think about the actual repercussions of what you say online?”
Other details: The Change.org petition, which calls to remove the “Spill Your Guts” segment from Corden’s show, has received over 46,000 signatures as of this writing.
In response to criticism, the late-night host addressed the issue in an episode of SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” and said they “absolutely won’t involve or use any of those foods,” adding that the show is about “joy and light and love.”
The social media influencer, however, says his comment was not an apology. She hopes Corden would formally apologize to the Asian community “and recognize the harm that it caused the Asian people,” Saira told The Post.
