Kim Kardashian cried 'the whole way home' from 2013 Met Gala after her outfit was torn apart by Twitter

Kim Kardashian West may be known for her fearless and trendsetting fashion, but the mom-of-four's first Met Gala experience was not met with the fondest of memories.

The reality star attended her first Met Ball back in 2013 while she was seven months pregnant with her first child, North, as Kanye West's date.

“Kanye was performing so I wasn’t actually invited. I was just Kanye’s plus one," West told Vogue in a new video about her most memorable fashion looks. "And that was okay with me because I never really dreamed I would be at the Met Ball,” she said. “I know no one really probably wanted me there at the time.”

“I was very pregnant, very puffy, and bloated and I was like, 'Oh god, of course the first time I go I'm gonna be huge'," she recalled.

The couple was dressed by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy for the "Punk: Chaos to Couture" themed gala, with the mom-of-one opting for a floral version of the longsleeved dress. It was a move that soon exacerbated her feelings of insecurity with harsh memes and fat-shaming comments from the internet. “I think Robin Williams even tweeted it, said I looked like Mrs. Doubtfire,” she said. “I was crying the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it."

“I was so insecure and I could never really speak up at that point," Kardashian West continued. "I was just so shy and I just wanted to make everyone happy." Despite the criticism, the media mogul's arrival on the red carpet was met with some support, including from none other than the Olsen twins.

“I just remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves so none of the critics mattered because the Olsen twins approved."

"I look back and I’m like wow, they had the vision," she said.
