KHSAA football finals: Beechwood tops Mayfield for third straight Class 2A title
Make it three in a row for the powerhouse Beechwood High School football team.
Chase Flaherty’s 10-yard touchdown run on the first play of the first quarter was the difference as Beechwood topped Mayfield 14-13 in Friday’s Class 2A championship game in front of 6,329 fans at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field in Lexington.
Flaherty carried 23 times for 115 yards to lead Beechwood (14-1), which finished the season with a 10-game winning streak.

Beechwood captured its 17th state title all-time, ranking third in Kentucky history behind Trinity (27) and Highlands (23).
Jutarious Starks carried 22 times for 104 yards and a touchdown to lead Mayfield (14-1), which lost in the state final for the fourth time in the past six seasons.
Zane Cartwright’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Stevenson pulled the Cardinals within 14-13 with 1:13 remaining, but the PAT kick failed.

Beechwood recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
