Kevin de Bruyne insists Manchester City are only focused on themselves after beating Chelsea 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

N’Golo Kante gave Chelsea the lead mid-way through the opening half in Manchester, before the Belgium midfielder equalised with the help of a wicked deflection.

Riyad Mahrez’s fine solo effort won the game for the hosts - a crucial win, given title rivals Liverpool beat Crystal Palace earlier in the day.

The result meant Pep Guardiola’s side reduced the deficit between themselves and the league leaders back to nine points, instead of falling further behind in the race for supremacy.

And De Bruyne said the reigning Premier League champions are only looking at their own results - instead of that of their rivals.

“We don’t care what happened to the other teams, whether it’s Liverpool, Leicester or Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports after the victory.

“What we did the last two years, it’s natural that they will come back and we know the hard work we have to put into it.”

He added: “They scored the goal and we had a great reaction. We scored two goals and should have scored with Kun (Aguero)’s chance, that would have made the game easier.

“In the second half, they maybe had more of the ball but I think we had the better chances.

“People expect us to have 70 per cent possession but these guys work hard and with the quality they have, they can control the ball.”
