Kerry Katona has come out in support of Piers Morgan and his outspoken opinions on gender-related issues amid calls for him to be sacked from Good Morning Britain.
As part of her new! magazine column, the former Atomic Kitten member wrote that, when it comes to identity, she can understand Morgan’s point-of-view when he “cheekily said he now identifies as a penguin.”
Katona then went on to misgender non-binary singer Sam Smith as she weighed in on whether the Brit Awards should get rid of its Best Male and Best Female categories and opt for a more gender-neutral grouping.
“Piers blames Sam for the Brits axing its male/female categories. Listen, I love Sam but biologically, the singer’s a male. There’s still a penis there! It’s science!
“I’m all for sticking up for the LGBTQ community, but I’m quite a traditionalist at heart and I do think Piers just says what a lot of people are already thinking,” she concluded.

Smith came out as non-binary in September, taking to Instagram to share an empowering statement that read: “Today is a good day so here goes... I’ve decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM.
“After a lifetime of being at war with my gender, I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out. I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but f**k it!
“I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering but all I ask is you please, please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you,” they added. “I’m scared s***less, but feeling super free right now. Be kind.”

While many praised the Dancing with a Stranger hitmaker for their openness, Morgan responded by suggesting that Smith made the announcement for a “splurge of publicity.”
He argued: “If 10% of the population decide they are not going to identify as male or female, where does that leave the demographic make up of this country going forward?”
