Kernels rough up Hickman, Captains, 11-2

May 19—Cedar Rapids got to Captains starter Mason Hickman for seven runs on the way to an 11-2 rout of the visiting Captains on May 19.

The Kernels hit three home runs off Hickman, Guardians' fifth-round pick in 2020, on the way to two runs in the first inning and five in the second. Hickman had given up a combined six runs in his first four starts. After May 19, his record fell to 0-3 and his ERA jumped to 6.75.

Jordan Jones relieved Hickman and also had a rough outing. He gave up four runs in two innings, including two home runs.

For the game, Cedar Rapids finished with five home runs, a double and a triple.

Lake County had five hits, including a two-run single by Aaron Bracho. He has eight RBI this season.

The Captains lead the series, 2-1, with ace Gavin Williams (2-1, 1.48) as the scheduled starter for May 20 at Cedar Rapids.
