Kernel ticket information announced for Class AA state basketball tournaments

Mar. 8—Mitchell High School announced additional information Sunday for fans attending the Class AA basketball tournaments.

Attendance for the Class AA girls basketball tournament at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls will capped at 700 adults and 240 students for each game, with Mitchell's pre-sale allotment consisting of 350 adult tickets and 120 student tickets. Ticket order forms for all three Kernel games are available at mitchellkernels.com and in the MHS office.

The cost for the three-game strip of Kernel contest tickets is $30 for adults and $18 for students. Masks will be required in the facility for fans attending the games.

Order forms for Class AA girls pre-sale tickets are due to the MHS office by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 8. Tickets can be picked up Wednesday, March 10 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Any remaining tickets for Mitchell games must be purchased through the Sanford Pentagon box office. They will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $11 for adults and $7 for students for each game of the tournament. All seats are general admission and no all-session tournament tickets will be sold.

State tournament shirts commemorating the Kernel girls making the state tournament are available through Sungold Sports. Orders for the girls tournament shirts are due by 2 p.m. Monday, March 8.

Kernel fans are being asked to wear black for Thursday's game, gold for Friday's game and white for Saturday's game. Shirts for each day of the tournament are being sold by Sungold for the girls tournament, and boys shirts will be made available later this week, with two of the shirts available to be used for both weekends.

The No. 5-seeded Mitchell girls (15-6) will play No. 4 O'Gorman in the second quarterfinal at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the Sanford Pentagon. With a win, Mitchell would face either top-seeded Sioux Falls Washington or No. 9 rapid City Central at 5:30 p.m. Friday, or with a loss, Mitchell would play at noon Friday in the consolation round.

The Mitchell boys (15-6) are seeded No. 7 in the state tournament field, which doesn't begin play until Thursday, March 18 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. The Kernels will play at 6 p.m. Central against No. 2 Yankton.

As of now, there are no capacity limits for the Class AA boys tournament in Rapid City. Masks will be required for fans attending the state tournament games.
