Kentucky reveals 2023 baseball schedule. Take a look at this season’s toughest assignments.
The University of Kentucky announced its full 54-game baseball schedule for the 2023 season on Friday, a slate that includes 31 home games at Kentucky Proud Park.
Opening day for the Wildcats is Feb. 17 at Elon, North Carolina, where UK opens a three-game series against Elon University.
Kentucky’s home opener is Feb. 21 against Evansville, the starter to a 10-game home stand over 16 days that also includes games against Wright State, Morehead State, Indiana State, Murray State and Ohio.
UK’s non-conference schedule in 2023 also includes home games against Indiana, Eastern Kentucky, Dayton, Xavier, Louisville and Tennessee Tech along with road trips to Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Louisville.
Only two teams on UK’s non-conference slate took part in last season’s NCAA Tournament: Louisville and Wright State.
The Wildcats will play their annual home-and-away set versus the archrival Cardinals on April 11 in Louisville and April 25 in Lexington.
UK earlier announced a 2023 Southeastern Conference schedule that includes six of the nine league schools that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament.
Of those matchups, the Wildcats will host Texas A&M and Florida for three-game series and play road series at Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Kentucky will not face defending NCAA champion Ole Miss or fellow College World Series combatants Auburn and Arkansas during its 30-game SEC regular season.
UK finished 33-26 overall last season and 12-18 in the SEC, good for sixth place in the seven-team East Division. The Cats narrowly qualified for the SEC Tournament as the No. 12 and final seed, then won three elimination games in four days before being knocked out in the semifinals.
The late-season run was not enough to earn the Wildcats their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2017, Coach Nick Mingione’s first season in charge.
Kentucky’s first SEC series of the 2023 season comes March 17-19 at home against Mississippi State, which did not make the NCAA field last season.
Kentucky will also host South Carolina and Missouri, two other schools that missed out on the postseason.
The Wildcats’ first SEC road series is March 24-26 at Alabama.
Game times and TV assignments will be announced at a later date.
The SEC Tournament is set for May 23-28 in Hoover, Ala.
