Kentucky basketball point guards TyTy Washington, Sahvir Wheeler injured at Auburn

If Kentucky basketball is to win at Auburn, it may have to do so without both its starting point guards.

Freshman guard TyTy Washington was sidelined with a left ankle injury with 8:20 left in the first half. Junior guard Sahvir Wheeler was sent to the locker room with 11:28 left in the game after a hard collision on a blindside screen. The play was similar to the one at LSU that forced Wheeler to miss two games with a neck injury.

Washington required the help of a trainer and UK teammate to limp off the court after landing awkwardly when he made a floater in the lane to give UK a 25-16 lead. Replays shows Washington roll his left ankle on the landing.

UK announced at halftime that Washington would not return to the game due to a left ankle injury. Wheeler returned to the court after just less than three minutes of game action.

UK trainers took Washington to the locker room after the injury, but the CBS broadcast reported the UK freshman had told the medical staff he was OK. The broadcast showed Washington walking with a noticeable limp to the locker room but under his own power.

A projected first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Washington ranks second on UK's team in scoring (14.2 points per game) and assists (82). He had contributed four points, one assist and one steal at the time of his injury.

Wheeler led Kentucky with 15 points at the time of his injury. He also had three assists and one turnover.

Kentucky led the No. 2-ranked Tigers by as many as 10 points in the first half but fell behind by nine shortly after Wheeler's injury.
