Kemp appoints GBI Director Vic Reynolds to Cobb Superior Court bench

Jun. 25—Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vic Reynolds, a former Cobb district attorney, has been appointed to the Cobb Superior Court bench by Gov. Brian Kemp, the governor's office announced Friday.

Also appointed to the bench by Kemp was Deputy Attorney General Julie Adams Jacobs. Reynolds and Jacobs will fill vacancies created by the retirements of Judge LaTain Kell and Judge Mary Staley Clark.

Reynolds, who was elected twice as district attorney, was named as GBI director in 2019. He's also served as a police officer and was the former chief magistrate judge of Cobb County.

Reynolds' replacement as GBI director will be named at a later date, the governor's office said.

"I'm very honored. I'm humbled by the confidence that the governor had in me, and I'm excited to be back home," Reynolds told the MDJ.

Reynolds said while he'll miss leading the GBI, constantly traveling the state for the last several years had become "a little tiring," and he was happy to get back to being in a courtroom.

"As fun as this job is and as exciting as it is, the thought of being able to go out my front door and walk to work is really attractive to me at this stage in my life. I wanted to get back to Marietta. I've missed it, and I think this is a great opportunity to do that," Reynolds said.

Jacobs, meanwhile, has worked in the attorney general's office for nearly 20 years and is the deputy attorney general of the Commercial Transactions and Litigation Division. Her areas of practice include contract disputes, procurement, banking, lottery operations, bankruptcy, securities, hospital acquisitions, and general business matters, per a news release.

Jacobs obtained her law degree from Emory University and is a graduate of Leadership Cobb.
